In the following video, Tyrone Walker, a member of Omega Psi Phi hops down the isle to the alter with his best men at his wedding.
What are your thoughts on Ques hopping down the isle at weddings? Can you ever be too OWT?
The movie particularly showed Slavery for what it was rather than romanticize slavery. What is more disturbing about this movie, is that there are bigoted” white” men like this who still exist. These tow-truck driving, tobacco chewing, middle school dropouts who genuinely believe that draped in their foolery they are somehow better than a man with more melanin. They must be very ignorant of countries like Brazil, Cuba, south Africa etc that are ruled by men with more pigmentation and have ruled for generations.
To those that point that slavery ended over 200 years ago, Jim Crow ended only 50 yrs ago is why. People talk a lot about slavery but Jim Crow was the real silent killer in the sense of giving black americans a poisonous culture. More damaging than the Federal Govt trafficking was practically every single city ‘walling off’ the ghettos and letting drug use become epidemic.
Look at a lot of the rap songs that came out in the 80’s and you’ll see initially there was a HUGE anti-drug sentiment within the black community because people were watching it destroy neighborhoods first hand.
But they basically let every ghetto in every city become a mini-somalia, warlords and all. They thought that if they let those areas go to hell it wouldn’t affect the rest of the city.
To those of you who wonder why they keep making movies about slavery: it relates to why we continue to see movies about the Jewish Holocaust. There are some things that happened historically that haunt our present. We use these movies to try to understand and make sense of it all. While we want to move on with our lives, we have a responsibility to the people who suffered to try to understand what it was like for them so that we don’t lose sight of what truly matters in this world.
The Germans went to absolutes to legally and socially repudiate their Nazi past, white Southerners glorify and wax nostalgic over their antebellum (and early 20th Century Jim Crow) past.
In Germany, it’s illegal to display Nazi paraphernalia, and the schools hammer home that their own country was the bad guy in WWII. Other than a few individual crackpots and social misfits, Germans as a whole do not deny the Holocaust or try to excuse or whitewash it. Contrast that with the whole “heritage not hate” nonsense about the Confederate battle flag. Heck I saw about half a dozen pickups with stars-and-bars bumper stickers on the way to work today. It’s almost an article of faith among Southern whites that the Civil War was not about slavery.
White, and particularly Southern white, America’s perception about slavery is much closer to the Japanese view of WW II. “Yeah, we made a few crummy choices and stepped on some toes, but we lost the war so that should be enough. And frankly we were really in the right in that war, anyway.. in fact, WE were the victims. Anyway, water under the bridge whether you like it or not, and if you bring it up we’ll accuse YOU of bias!” Any surprise that other Asians still hold a big grudge against the Japanese? And that black Americans hold a grudge against whites?
Why not tell the Jews to neglect the crimes of the holocaust? That would be Anti Semitic. You can not expect the African to not remember, teach and educate the atrocities of SLAVERY!
America nor the rest of the World has had to deal with slavery in a in-your-face manner. Slavery has always it has been romanticized, more so a tale. The sting and bite has always been removed, white americans control the network so lots of slavery filtering. Slavery has never had any validity!
I do believe it’s a story that needs to be told. It’s a topic that needs to be discussed and an issue that has to be dealt with.If there is no communication, no collective group of people learning and sharing, there will never be any moving forward.
FORGIVENESS, does not happen by pretending! If you want to make a statement, stop the racist images embedded in our brains by the media, in America and Globally. They contribute to the global hatred and prejudices of darker peoples.
Add a diverse history course your schools to stop teaching the glorious history of the white man and how everything was his invention AND TELL THE TRUTH! Teach a diverse history including all people. Teach the world over the true history of civilization and how life started in Africa and the inventions we use are from the Africans. That black people did not began as slaves.
Teach, why there are ghettos and why the people( not all the people) turn to crime and drugs to cope with conditions that started in Crowism. Do something! Because I believe these things manifest into the people whom are out underdogs. Destroy a man’s religion, history and culture and you no longer have a man!
For every movie about slavery….there are Ten about Holocaust
Actually, prior to 1941 Nazi plans for both Jews and slavs living east of the Molotov-Ribbentrop line were specifically based on U.S. government policies toward Native Americans in the 19th Century.
Most of the Jews, Ukrainians, Belarussians, etc. killed by the Nazis didn’t die in gas chambers. They were shot, starved, allowed to die of disease, burned in their houses… sound kind of like the Indian Wars? Heck, the Army intentionally wiped out the buffalo so the Plains Indians would starve.
THE EYEBROW IN THE LAST GIF THOUGH.
I’d like to think that was the same guy from Comic-Con who yelled “MY WIFE LOVES YOU” at Tom Hiddleston.
Slave Owner. Ironic he played the part of slave owner and his family lineage is known for being BIG in the slave business.
